Dr. Heavner is an associate professor and critical care pharmacist at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.

About Dr. Heavner

Dr. Heavner received a Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Neurobiology from University of Maryland, College Park, and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP). Subsequently, she completed a pharmacy practice residency and critical care & solid organ transplant specialty residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, in New Haven CT. She became board certified in pharmacotherapy in 2009 and critical care in 2015. Following her residency training, Dr. Heavner practiced as a clinical pharmacy specialist in the medical ICU, served as the residency director of the critical care pharmacy specialty program, and spent several years as the supervisor of clinical pharmacy services at Yale New Haven Hospital. She joined the faculty at UMSOP in the Department of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research in 2016. Since then, she has practiced as a clinical pharmacy specialist in the medical ICU at the University of Maryland Medical Center and vice chair for clinical services at UMSOP. She is currently the coordinator of the pharmacotherapy two-year residency program and assistant dean for experiential learning.

Scholarly Interests

Dr. Heavner studies the impact of pharmacists in clinical practice and improving outcomes through implementation of ICU programs to standardized and streamline care delivery. Her current practice and research interests are focused on delirium, analgesia, sedation, and sleep in the ICU.
