Leah Sera, PharmD, MA, BCPS

About Dr. Sera:

Dr. Sera received her PharmD from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP) in 2010. She completed a pharmacy practice residency at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD., and a specialty residency in pain management and palliative care at the UMSOP. She is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist. She earned a master’s in instructional systems development at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2017.

Dr. Sera is the associate dean for recruitment, admissions, and integration at UMSOP. She is an associate professor and vice chair for academic affairs in the Department of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research. Her clinical specialties are pain management and palliative care.

Dr. Sera was the inaugural program director for the nation’s first Graduate Studies in Medical Cannabis program at UMSOP, which includes the MS in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics (MCST) and Graduate Certificate in Medical Cannabis Science, Therapeutics, and Policy. Additionally, Dr. Sera holds an associate faculty position at the University of Maryland School of Graduate Studies.

Dr. Sera has been invited to speak on pain management, palliative medicine, and cannabis therapeutics topics at professional pharmacy conferences and at medical centers such as the National Institutes of Health. Her research interests include the scholarship of teaching and learning in pharmacy education, knowledge and attitudes related to medical cannabis, social determinants of health, and health policy.
