About Dr. Klein-Schwartz:

Wendy Klein-Schwartz, Pharm.D., MPHDr. Wendy Klein-Schwartz received her Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 1977 and Master of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health in 1996.  She is Coordinator of Research and Education at the Maryland Poison Center and Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Maryland Baltimore.  Dr. Klein- Dr. Klein-Schwartz has been on the faculty of the pharmacy school for 36 years during which time she has served as Assistant Director and Director of the Maryland Poison Center.  She is Director of the Clinical Toxicology Fellowship at the Maryland Poison Center.

Research Interests:

Dr. Klein-Schwartz conducts research in the areas of poison information and clinical toxicology with emphasis on epidemiology of poisoning as well as optimal management of poisonings. She has authored over 95 research publications and chapters in clinical toxicology and pharmacy texts. She lectures locally and nationally and presents platform and poster presentations at national and international meetings.

Service:

During her tenure at the School of Pharmacy Dr. Klein-Schwartz has served on numerous committees and chaired several standing committees. She is a member of the Maryland Statewide Epidemiologic Outcomes Workgroup (SEOW), a partnership between the School of Pharmacy and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, which provides information on consumption, risk factors and consequences of alcohol, tobacco and drug use in Maryland. Dr. Klein-Schwartz is active in the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC). She is currently chair of the Research Awards Committee, member of the tricky coding question subcommittee and AAPCC representative on the AAPCC/Micromedex Joint Coding Group. She is on the editorial board of Annals of Pharmacotherapy and serves as referee for toxicology, emergency medicine, pharmacy and other specialty journals. Organization memberships include the AAPCC, American Academy of Clinical Toxicology, American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. She is also a member of the Pesticide Advisory Committee of the Maryland Department of Agriculture.
